2004 Annual Trek June 18-19-20, 2004 Hosted by the Fort Bridger Historial Association and the Uinta County Historical Society From the May, 2004 Wyoming History News, Volume 51, Number 3: FORT BRIDGER HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION HOSTS 2004 TREK Come play with the Fort Bridger Historical Association, the Uinta County Historical Society, and the Uinta County Museum on June 18, 19, and 20. We are not only going to sponsor this summer's State Historical Trek, but we are also celebrating "Old Gabe's" birthday. We will have everything from mountain men to railroad grades, museums to culverts, military to milk barns, and Chinese to Trona. Registration starts on Friday at the American Legion Hall in Fort Bridger. There will be plenty of choices of things for you to do on your own until the banquet starts that night. You can visit the Trona Museum and Heritage Farm in Lyman or take a walking tour of the town of Bridger or go to the Annual Meeting in the schoolhouse that was built in 1900. That night at the banquet of barbecued pork, you will be treated to a clothing demonstration from life in the 1880's and a speaker. To celebrate the birth of Jim Bridger, the Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Commission has granted the Fort Bridger Historical Site a "free day" on Saturday, June 19. You are all invited to the party. Come prepared to have good old-fashioned fun. You will see Mountain Men at Bridger's Post, Military at the guardhouse, and immigrants on the parade ground, and get a special tour of the entire site's buildings, renovated museum, and the archaeological dig. After lunch at the picnic grounds, Bobby Bridger will entertain us with a musical rendition of the life of his Uncle Jim. We will board a bus and tour down an original railroad grade where we will see the California and Mormon Trails, the Muddy Gap Crossing, and the kilns, buildings and cemetery of the town of Piedmont. That night there will be another banquet featuring prime rib, chicken, and ham with local entertainment and a featured speaker. On Sunday, Evanston historians have volunteered to man various sites that you may visit on your own. The sites include the Evanston Roundhouse and Rail yards complex; the Depot Square, which includes the Uinta County Museum, the U.P. Depot, and the Joss House; and Historic Ice Ponds and Bear River Pavilion. A block of rooms has been requested at the local motels, but call them soon to get your spot reserved.
