Wyoming History Day is an exciting academic enrichment program that helps students learn about historical issues, ideas, people, and events. This academic adventure provides teachers with an innovative teaching tool and fosters students' enthusiasm for learning. For more than twenty-five years the National History Day program has promoted systemic educational reform related to the teaching and learning of history in America's schools. The combination of creativity and scholarship built into the NHD program anticipated current educational reforms, making National History Day a leading model of performance-based learning. History Day is a year-long education program that engages students in grades 6-12 in the process of discovery and interpretation of historical topics. Students produce dramatic performances, imaginative exhibits, multimedia documentaries and research papers based on research related to a yearly theme. The theme for 2002 is "Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History". The theme for 2003 is "Rights and Responsibilities in History". These projects are then evaluated at local, state, and national competitions. Wyoming History Day is coordinated by the American Heritage Center and sponsored by the Wyoming State Historical Society and the State Department of Parks and Cultural Resources.
