About the Wyoming State Historical Society Nominating Committee
One member is elected each year by the membership at the Annual Meeting of the State Historical Society.
This member will serve for a three year term. The Committee may choose its own chairperson.
The nominating committee's functions are:
- The Nominating Committee shall name a minimum of two candidates for each of the three trustee posistions that are to be filled each year.
- The chairman of the Nominating Committee will forward these nominations to the Executive Committee for their approval and forwarding to the editor of the "Wyoming History News" for publication at least 30 days prior to the Annual Meeting.
- In addition, the Nominating Committee shall be entrusted with the duty of counting the ballots (which have been returned by the Society's members direct to Cheyenne headquarters and given to the Nominating Committee prior to the Annual Business Meeting) at a time and place convenient to the committee and, during the Society's Annual Businmess Meeting, announcing the results of the election.
- The slate of nominees is selected as follows:
- The current state officers should be asked for their recommendations. These recommendations should be given careful consideration by the committee, as the officers, through their statewide contacts with the membership of the Society, are in a unique position to know and judge potential Society officers.
- The presidents of all county chapters should be contacted and asked to obtain from the members and/or officers of their chapters any recommendations and to pass them on to the committee for their consideration.
- After all recommendations have been received, the committee should consider them carefully and preparea tentative slate. Usually this can be done by correspondence or by phone.
- After the tentative slate has been prepared, the chairman of the committee should contact each nominee to ask his/her permission to place his/her name in nomination and, also, to be sure that the nominee is ready, willing and able to serve his/her Society, if elected, as a member of the Board of Trustees.
- Upon obtaining a slate of nominees, all of whom have agreed to run and, if elected, to serve on the Board, the slate should be forwarded to the editor of the "Wyoming History News" to be sent out in ballot form to the membership.
