This calendar was published by the Wyoming State Historical Society and the American Heritage Center, University of Wyoming. Commentary by Phil Roberts and Edited by Rick Ewig and Maxine Trost. ![]() The theme for the 1996 Wyoming Historical Calendar is the importance of outdoor recreation as a part of life in Wyoming. The photographs, selections from the collections of the American Heritage Center, showcase the photography of Charles J. Belden, Stephen N. Leek, and other unidentified photographers. The pictures "have preserved scenes of how people have enjoyed Wyoming's Great Outdoors. ![]() Phil Roberts, history professor from the University of Wyoming, nicely summarizes the lives of Belden and Leek. Belden came to Wyoming in 1910, and he managed the Pitchfork Ranch near Meeteetse while also continuing his photographic interests. Leek ranched and homesteaded in Jackson Hole and became known as a pioneer and preservationist in the area. His photography was aimed at wildlife, and he became billed as "The Father of the Elk" for his efforts to preserve the Jackson Hole elk herd. ![]() about previous Wyoming Historical Calendars:
