Western Trails Project Trail Maps by Loren C. Bishop Fort Casper, Independence Rock & South Pass This map created by L.C. Bishop is marked "© - Wyoming State Archives & Historical Department 1959". The scale is 1 inch = 4 miles. The original dimensions are 17½ inches wide by 23½ inches high. This L.C. Bishop map has three separate maps on it, Fort Casper [Fort Caspar], Independence Rock and South Pass. The Fort Casper map includes: North Platte River (Wyo.); Oregon National Historic Trail; Casper, Wyoming; Willow Springs Pony Express Station (Wyo.); Robert Stuart 1st winter camp; Red Butte Pony Express Station; South Pass (Wyo.); and Natrona County (Wyo.). The Independence Rock Map includes: Devil's Gate (Wyo.); Martins Cove (Wyo.); Split Rock Pony Express Station (Wyo.); Three Crossings Stage and Pony Express Station (Wyo.); and portions of the old Ft. Washakie - Rawlins Road; Fremont County; Natrona County; and Carbon County. The South Pass Map includes: Sweetwater River (Wyo.); Rock Creek (Wyo.); Oregon National Historic Trail [shown as California-Oregon-Mormon-Emigrant Road]; Ft. Stambaugh; Rocky Ridge; Aspen Grove Ice Springs (Wyo.); Ice Slough Pony Express Station (Wyo.); Seminoe Cut off (Wyo.); and the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th Crossings of the Sweetwater River.
